I’ve been in a rut, so for the ‘album in a month’ challenge (www.rpmchallenge.com), I’m doing something I actually thought of awhile ago: I’m taking one of my all time favorite albums and simply drumming along to it while it plays in my headphones, recording each drum part directly corresponding to each of its original 9 songs.
I’ll then write new songs afterward just ‘to’ the drum parts, BUT keeping the songs in the exact same order as they are on the original artist’s album - kind of like tracing paper… maybe. The songs will have little in common with their ‘derivative’ other than the arrangement, drum part and tempo/feel.
Suffice to say, it’s probably not an album anyone who knows me would suspect I supremely enjoy, and it’s not even really a rock album, which should make it all the more fun to create.
