‘Have A Cigar’ played through a cigar box.
I’ve deleted the Facebook App from my iPhone. I’ve also taken the bookmark from my toolbar. The thing is: I’ve pretty much caught up with anyone and everyone I’ve ever met from my past. There were some awkward years, for sure. Blame crappy cell phones and primitive web browsers. Of late, there is a noticeable upswing in eye-pleasing fonts. Digital interface has moved out of the Courier/Times dark ages and into a vast array of particularly thrilling looks.
The latest New York Magazine nods its new style (much like this blog’s design) in Futura’s direction. My love of this fonts sleek and simple lines - and of typefaces in general - can be traced to the opening credits of the 1970’s BBC sci-fi series Space: 1999. Indeed, three of the sexiest type styles of all time appear in just the show’s first minute.
Trade Gothic seems even more timeless now thanks to Mad Men - further proof that when it comes to style, less is more. I doubt anyone misses Chicago or Monaco. Then again, The Gap is selling flannel shirts again. Maybe they should change their corporate logo to Cooper Black.
